if you have no dog then get as many buddies as you can to hunt with you....try using blockers...by this i mean have some guys go around and ahead of where the starting point is...push the birds towards them and just wait for those roosters to pop up at the least possible second they can...I have had pheasants fly and hit me when they flush because they sit so tight...they are very smart...walk quietly and try to sneak everywhere you go this seems to work better than making lots of noise because it doesn't give the birds as much warning to when you are coming...I haven't owned a hunting dog yet (im only 20) and have been hunting pheasants without a dog for about 10 years now and just last year I got 25 roosters all without a dog...Pheasant hunting is my favorite kind of hunting but it is very difficult and tiring

Great advice already posted. I used to hunt without a dog too. It can work, but you have to zigzag, go through the rough stuff and go slow, pausing often. Unless you can't have a dog for some reason, I would recommend getting one. He'll become your best friend and make the experience much more enjoyable.

I hunted without a dog the first two years I lived in Nebraska. Between myself and my buddy we shot maybe 8 birds those two years. I then decided I would buy my first bird dog (A GSP) and train her myself. The first time I had her out and actually hunting we shot our limit in 1-1/2 hours. She is a great bird dog and more than I can ask for. Most of the time I enjoy watching her work more than shooting at the birds. You can tell when she gets the scent and then she goes straight to where the bird is at and goes on point. Probably the most enjoyable site I have ever seen.

i hate to even say this in one way because the pgc could stop stocking birds if more people are complaining, like me..
these driving bird hunters are nasty, they yell to get out of way ,here we come..they shoot at you, over you, around you..
you cant have people driving in groups of 6 or more and expect safety to be great..
on preserve , i am for it but not on stategamelands..if hunter shows up by himself, i always ask if they would like to come along with me to hunt ..
its a wonder that pgc is nice enough to still stock birds here in pa..some of hunters i am seeing lately with/without dogs are disgusting human beings..
sorry i got off subject ..yes, driving pheasants with buddy and no dog works ,i am for that..

I hunted pheasant for years with out a dog. Try walking zig-zag, not a straight line. It help close the distance if there are not enough people to cover the field. Then, I would go get a dog! Much easier and tons of fun.
