Quail calls??

RE: Quail calls??
When training dogs over pen raised quail that I've bought and missed a shot, I've used a quail call to relocate them so I can get the dog back on them. I think the one I have is either a Knight & Hale or a Quacker Boy. It's just a wooden call and probably wasn't over $15. And yes, it did work well. But, I've never used it on wild quail, just the single pen raised ones that tried to get away.

I scrape out the cork, punch a small hole in the center with an ice pickand bend it over keeping the hole in the center. I can also do it by mouth without the cap. It's three low tone whistles. Imitating the female.

RE: Quail calls??
I bought A wood one that sounds pretty real, and made two like the store bought one that sounds almost exactly the same.
Just two peices of wood put on top of eachother with a small gap in the middle with a stretched rubber band in-between.
Going to try them in the morning

That's pretty crafty! Let us know how your homemade ones work! The one that I bought has (I think) two hole in it and you cover them up and for the second verse (the "white") part of "bob white" you open one up by letting go with your finger.
