Default Hunting

I live in a small suburban neighborhood, and my family is getting another puppy soon. We already have a 9 year old chocolate lab. There are woods around my neighbors house, and since we're getting a puppy I want to get a pellet gun and take it hunting. How does this sound to you guys? Also how would I go about asking my neighbors if I can hunt on their property? What should I say? Also, give me some good things to tell my parents. They arent too sure about this idea.

I hope this is in the right board.

It sounds to me like ya are just starting out in hunting, my sugestion is to take a hunters safty class, call your DNR to find when the next class is. This will make it leagle for you to hunt and they teach alot about safty and rules. If you are interested in hunting this is the best way to start. If your dad hunts have hime take ya if not try see if any relatives whohunts will take ya, what I am saying is find someone who has been doing this a while and learn from them. Hunting in your side yard with a pellet gunprobable not going to be leagle of that afective.

TAKE THE CLASS, LEARN THE RULES, THEN GO HUNTING!

No, it isnt near city limits.

I planned on taking the class anyway.

And a 1000 fps pellet rifle can kill a bird.

we all have to start someplace you probably wont want a dog with you scaring the birds before you shoot them if you decide hunting is something you really want to do you might ask a local game warden to put you in touch with some one who can take you out and teach you what they know i try to teach at least 1 person to hunt every year and most hunters have the gear you need i always let the new hunters barrow stuff to hunt when there with me

Well, a pointer wont exactly scare away a bird, unless the bird is on the ground, or on any low limbs. If all goes to plan, we will get a GSP. But if things dont turn out that way, we will get a lab.

your not gona do the dog any good by huntin for small birds in trees, and your gun isnt gona do. i say this because i pellet gun doesnt have a muzzle blast, you need to start with a .22 and when u feel the dog is afraid of muzzle blast move up to your shutgun.
