Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

As an FYI: gobblers/jakes can make every vocalization that a hen can, but a hen cannot gobble.
I've seen hens gobble on 2 occasions. Two years ago, a hen was strutting and gobbled twice. I have it on video.

Yesterday, I had a hen within 20 yards of me. She was clucking and cutting excitedly, so I decided to have some fun with her. I mimicked her and she let out two gobbles. I was thrilled but disappointed that no Toms were in the area.

My buddy said he had a hen gobbling last year. He said it was a messed up sounding gobble, but it gobbled just the same.

Yes, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to state that a hen couldn't gobble at all. It is, however, quite rare I believe, and definitely does not sound anything like a tom's roar. The only one I ever heard was sounded like a very young jake...quite incomplete with decreased amplitude and much shorter (maybe .5sec) duration.

They do strut all the time. I find here in New England much moreso in the late summer/early fall, when the hens are still fighting for their poults.

i was wondering almost the same thing. the last time i went turkey hunting this last season i called in a hen or what i thought was a hen. it was dark like a gobbler but it was purring and clucking the whole way in. i thought it might be a gobbler but it didn't gobble and i couldn't see a beard so if anyone has any input on this i would like to hear it. thanks.
