I've used them and had good results once. But that result was very memorable. The bird was hung up , wouldn't move and hardly gobbled. After I did this he gobbled allot and came in quickly.I used both at the same time doing long aggressive purrs but then added this. Using a wing or pulling on a long loose coat or jacket sleeve make wing flapping noises. I also used my feet and a stick to push leaves around like the birds are brawling. I also used a box call to make a few short goggles. I shot my biggest bird doing this 11 1/4 beard with 1 1/4 and 1 1/8 spurs. I had the pleasure in Maine of seeing two flocks of turkeys come running across a field and start fighting . What a rumble and they made on heck of a racket.

At times they can and do work wonders (wonders I say!), they are however, typically a long shot reliant on ideal circumstances of breeding activity/gobbler disposition/territoriality. I always have them in my bag but use them only seldomly, sometimes years in between and only when applicable.

I also agree with P3's contribution while using them.

I have used them to some extent, Once or twice they may have helped in me tagging one. I have actually started fights between turkeys while using them though. IMO a purr is one of the deadliest calls there is, whether it be Knight and Hale or on your favorite friction or mouth call.
