Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default Hen-ed up again

Worked a bird this morning for 45 minutes. Called the hen into the decoy. The tom gobbled constantly but never showed his face. Stayed just over the ridge about 70 yrds out. This drives me nuts. The hen was right on top yelping and clucking. I just knew he would show up. Not! Guess I will be back in the morning. Good luck guys.

Been there and know exactly how you feel. I put 3 days in on the Tom I harvested last spring who did the same thing. He'd gobble at my calls, but just wouldn't show himself. 50 yards away was his limit, just out of sight down over the ridge. I brought the dominant hen in and really had her fired up too, but he still refused to show. Let him alone for 2 days over the weekend and went back to see him Monday morn.

I changed up a bit, setting up below him on day 3 since he had favored the bench below his roost on my previous 2 visits. I placed a single hen decoy in the dark, tree called softly after the first crow went off and smoked him at 25 yards less than 10 minutes later. He answered my soft clucks numerous times on the limb, then got nervous after I gave him the silent treatment. He ran a jake off that snuck in just seconds before and was the proud recipient of my 3" mag. I had a great time with that stubborn Tom.

I appreciate the advice. I am going to leave him alone Friday and try and get him Saturday or Sunday. I am going to try and get on the other side of him and set up.

If your state allows it, GO GET HIM THIS AFTERNOON! The hens will leave him somewhere between 11 and 1. Go back to the same place and be aggressive in your calling. He will show up.
