Default ALMOST GOT ONE, BUMMER

Well season here in AL started march 15 & I am still without a bird. In general this season has gone pretty bad so far. On this past saturday evening around 5pm I actually sat down & worked my first bird of the year, that by itself is pretty bad. Anyway to make a long story short he only gobbled about 7-8 times, I had him approx. 30-40 yards out but a briar thicket was between me and him, but I was running out of time & it was try to call him through it or go to the house. Well I tried to call him through it of course. As I said I had him about 30-40 yards out and he was on the other side of a hill to make matters even worse. So not only was I gonna have to call him uphill but through a briar thicket also. I could hear the phhhitt-vvvvvvoooooooooommmmmmmm, as he spit-n-drummed, (Man, I dont think theres another sound in the world like that). When I could see the top portion of his white head coming from downhill and stepping into the thicket I knew I had him. but at that exact time, to my right from about 40 yards away I heard WHOOSH, WHOOSH, WHOOSH a deer blew @ me or sometihng else I didnt like. Thats when the little white head disappeared back down the hill. He stayed another 10-15 min tortureing me, then went away. BUMMER. but thats how turkey hunten goes. He'll still be there so hopefully I'll get him next time. Anyway just wanted to share that with ya'll.

You did the best you could and had a nice encounter, albeit no kill. Sounds like a great day in the woods to me!
