Default Does a ported choke reduce recoil?

I have heard that a ported choke reduces recoil. I shoot a moss 835 with a comp-n choke XX full. Ya'll know an 835 kicks like a mule. I wanna try some heavi shot and was thinking about an undertaker or briley choke for heavy shot. They aren't ported though, will it make a big difference?

Oddly enough, my finding with Remington heavi-shot, (their 1 7/8 ounce 3 1/2" shell), is that it actually produced less felt recoil than the Winchester 1 3/4 oz. 3 1/2" shell I was shooting. Both were #6 shot and the Winchester was a lighter payload. I was pleasantly surprised.

More on what your asking... I have patterned chokes with and without ports and I can't tell much difference, if any at all between the two. The ported chokes I can speak of are the Kicks, Hastings and a stock Browning turkey tube.

Not at all. A ported barrel is the best bet for reduced recoil in a shotgun. A ported choke has no real effect on recoil. And as for an 835 kicking like a mule,I have shot them,it kicks hard only with a 3 1/2 inch shell. I see no difference with other, shorter loads. Pretty much the same as a 500A which I own.
