To those who make their own Wingbone calls
#1

I found by accident an important fact!
I am in the process of ramping up my Winter hobby. Many have sent be wings to make calls for them. So I am busy.
On many wings I clean, I find shot holes. Really no problem and lots of times I even find imbedded shot in a bone or two.
Well the neat thing was - I had a shot hole in the middle of the Ulna bone which is the middle bone placed in the call. Thought nothing of it - not at all. glued it up like the rest.
As I was tuning each call after it came off the glue rack you get used to pitch and tone. Couple of clucks - little fine tuning and on the art rack it goes. Then came this call with a hole. Didn't even notice it. Tried to tune it and it was not as loud as the rest - tried again - it sounded the same but much much quieter - Remember now I had tuned about 20 or so before I found this one and it just did not sound up to standard. Okay what is wrong with this call and then I saw the hole!
The neat fact is - it really quiets the call down! And if you want a louder tone - Just place a finger over the hole! Worked just like a turmpet with a muff on it. I could vary loudness and it sounded so sweet! Can't wait to try it.
Now I am off looking at a few of my own. I have drilled several holes and am waiting for th glue to dry. I am going to experiment to how soft I can make these sound.
