Though I haven't hunted yet, I already know what they are going to tell you. "Whatever you feel most confident/comfortable with." I think it is good advice. I have a box call, 3 mouth calls and a slate and I haven't hunted yet. I like the mouth calls and the box call the best so far.

If I had to pick one I would take a mouth call. I think turkey are like human they all have different personality. One call might work well on one bird and not even effect another. The turkey mood is inportant also. If he is in the mood just about any call will work.

The reason that turkey hunters end up owning so many calls is that even the turkeys don't know from one day til the next which will be the most effective. Get proficient with as many different types of calls as you can. Because sooner or later that call will be the most irresistable call in your vest...that day.

..Believe me a box call has killed more turkeys for me,than any other call, second is the glass friction call with hickory striker..

I have used a combo of calls. I usually use the box call for long range and the mouth call when they get closer. I think they both are great.

I agee with jeff, get good at all of them and use a combo. Different areas produce different turkeys and different turkeys have different tastes...if you get what im sayin. But if i had to choose just one,it would be the diaphram call.

A week ago I would have said a friction/slate call. But since I've got the hang of the diapham call I think that is the most useful. You can't beat the concealment factor the diaphram offers.
