What about Iowa??
I was wanting to know how many of you hunt in Iowa and how many have gotten birds. I shot 2, one during 2nd season and one during 4th, and my dad shot one with a bow. Just would like to hear how others have done.

RE: What about Iowa??
Jepcho, I hunted 1st and 4th. My 1st season was a bust lots of action... just not from Toms. I finally filled my 4th season tag last Thursday. All and all it has been one of my more frustrating seasons. I work with, and know quite a few hunters and everyone agrees the birds seemed sort of odd this spring. The hens really dictated the day more than in years past... just an opinion. There never seemed to be that "magical" time when the Toms were without hens, usually that 10 to 2 time frame. Last Thursday I hunted the evening. I pulled in around 6:00, and there were 2 toms at each end of the farm strutting with hens. But the year ended good, and it will give me something to think about until deer season. Where do you do most of your hunting? I mainly hunt east central, with a yearly trek up to northeat Iowa for the first weekend of 4th season. My legs could'nt take those hills for an entire turkey season!

RE: What about Iowa??
Hey fellow Iowa guys. I hunt up in NE Iowa and had a great season. I hunted 1st and 4th season and scored in both seasons. I shot a tom opening morning and then on the 1st of May I doubled up on a pair of two year olds with my nephew. I took a friend up last weekend and got pretty wet, but after the rain stopped about 9:30 the birds started to talk. We hunted damn hard until about 2:00 or 2:30 and the birds were really talking good, but to no avail. We had a pair of gobblers start off as far as you could hear them and come all the way within about 100-150 yards and stop. Just screaming thier red little heads off, and this was at about 1:00. I thought for sure that this was it but I guess thats why they call it hunting. There is no sure thing. We still have next weekend.

I hunt in the Dubuque area. This was my first year out, and I settled for a bearded hen on the second to last day of thrid season. I saw quite a few nice toms, and missed one that I called in from around 1/2 mile away. Next year I will get the big boy!

RE: What about Iowa??
I live in Southern Iowa and took a gobbler the first morning with my bow. Had quite a few close encounters and one miss before finally getting my second gobbler on May 12. Also took 3 gobblers with shotgun in Mississippi in March which makes my best season ever in 20 years of chasing turkeys. I also took my son out and he took a jake for his first Spring bird. I think I was more excited than he was! It's been a great year and I still hope to get my son out for a chance at his second bird this weekend.
