Just to get a little discussion going heres a question that many of us in todays turkey woods unfortunately encounter on public ground.Your set-up on a roosted gobbler that has already hit you back on your first series of tree yelps and your in that stage of waiting for him to hit the ground when all the sudden on the next ridge over another hunter moves in and starts calling to the bird. The bird gobbles back at him too,so what do ya do?Do you get more aggressive, stop calling, find another bird, let the guy know your there or what<img src=icon_smile_question.gif border=0 align=middle>

Been there!everyone who hunts public land has,or will.Me-I drive to one of my spots,if i see a strangers truck -i move to spot B.,If im set up like you mentioned-like i said "been there".I drop the call in my lap, kick back & enjoy the show. at this age (37) I've killed my share of birds, and I've learned that trying to outcall the other hunter(s) is not going to make make me feel any better about the situation, even if i were able to "turn" the tom, If i hear the shot,i ease up to the hunter and say something like "That was fun!" introduce myself, relive the hunt a couple min. then I'm out of there!-If no shot,i sit tight till alls quiet,30-1 hr. then i call softly.no answer-spot B.I'll give em the doubt maybe the other guy did'nt know i was there. Now someone slipp'n up between a tom a me.....That's a whole different kinda dirtbag,I,d better not tell you what I've done...I plead the 5th.

myself I would call more aggresively to try and make the other hunter aware of my pressence, and then may the best man win.Knowing in this situation the turkey usually figures out in a hurry whats going on and heads the other way..

If I was on public ground, I would try to coax the tom over to me. Best caller wins on public ground as long as there is no confrontation and both hunters have plenty of distance between them. I have been on both sides of the fence on this one, and have never that I know of, messed up or made someone mad at calling at the same tom.

If I did my homework and the other hunter is on another ridge then I feel I'm in the best possible spot.I would wait till I heard the bird fly down and then just use soft callin.I like Brokenbuckets plan too.BG2 I think the key here is the other hunter is on another ridge. If he were on the same ridge as me I would probaly sit tight and see what happens.

I had this same thing happen to me last spring and i made a move on the bird because the bird would of never crossed this steep raveen between this guy and the bird. I got the bird but i'm sure the other person called me every sob in the book. OH WELL THAT'S LIFE ON PUBLIC LAND!!!!!
