Yall ever have those seasons where no matter how hot the birds are you get on, something just happens. I haven't connected all year and have gotten on plenty of birds, but something always happens. Another hen after the first one has left him for the morning, trying to force the issue and relocating too quick, etc. I'm going to go nuts if I don't pop one soon. I've been taking a newbie everytime this year. He connected on a Jake(no flack please it was his first bird ever), but I just cant get us that longbeard. I'm used to hunting alone, bad luck with a partner maybe? I just want to make sure other hunters out there have had these kind of seasons.

Well, If its any consolation, if it wasn't for the newbies I've been calling for, I would have limited out by now. But, I wouldn't trade those experiences with friends for anything.

Remember, turkey hunting is about HUNTING turkeys, NOT about killing 'em.

Just be patient, things will turn around.

I think that many hunters hunt differently, maybe not intentionally or consciously so, when they hunt with another hunter, especially a newbie, but still hunt differently because they want the newbie to have a perfect or classic experience. I know I have done so. My decisions are different, I think, when I have an inexperienced companion along. I may try to "force" the bird to fit my mental image of where he will come and where the newbie will shoot him. I may set up in a place I wouldn't otherwise, because it offers a better shooting lane for the newbie, etc. Plus, generally, there is more opportunity to mess up--more noise, more movement with two hunters than with one, etc. I notice that more than anything else, and I hate to get too harsh about noise and movement with a newbie. For myself, I can (and do) sit perfectly still for from 45 minutes to an hour, then make a slight adjustment. Most newbies fidgit constantly. just don't have the heart to tell them to stop moving so much, as I know they are actually trying to sit still and think they are doing so.

Anyway, I think you still want them along, because when your effort is successful, their joy is pretty special, and it is nice to think that you have been able to bring so much joy into another person's life.

I preciate the kind encouraging words. Snowdog2. It seemed like you have been out there with me. The newbies just dont know what sit still means. Anyway, I've turned this guy into a Turkey huntin maniac, much like myself, in just one week. I guess thats all the sucess I need for one season!!!!
