Will hopefully be able to get out and do some target shooting this weekend to try and pattern my gun, what would be a good starting point for a shell/load for a Browning Gold (3” chamber) with the factory full choke? I will probably start with the Federal 1 7/8 oz 4 shot. Does anyone have any experience with this gun/shell combo……or any other suggestions!
Thanks,

I dont have experience with your gun but maybe I can be of some assistance. I would also try federal premium 5,6 and Winchester HV 5,6. There are some local gun stores/hunting stores around here that sell a grab bag of shells to try and find the best load for your gun. If you can ask your gun dealer/ sports shop owner if he would be interested in starting something like that (the worst thing he can say is no). I dont know my gun and the chokes I have tried like the winchester hv #6's

Try Win. high velocity #4's with your factory full choke. They seem to pattern better with a more open choke. If you get serious about turkey hunting, consider buying a turkey choke tube for your gun. It will make a world of difference. A buddy hunts with a BPS with the factory full. It's marginal at 40 yd. MY BPS with a turkey tube is devastating at the same range.

When I shot copper plated lead shells, (I shoot Nitro Hevishot loads now), I enjoyed shooting Winchester 3" High velocity 1 3/4oz of #5's out of a Tru-Glo Stru Stopper choke tube sized .665!!

I dont own a Gold SD, but my BPS with the xxfull factory choke you get with Brownings turkey guns seems to tear up targets with a 3" Rem. 2 oz of 4 shot. Aint killed a turkey with it yet but im a lot more confident then when i didnt have it. As for your factory full mine actually patterned best with the exact same load, just not as tite as the xxfull. Good luck!

I agree with wingbone. With a more open constriction a #4 might shoot tighter but that is not allways the case. You may do well to try a #6 HV shell. The extra pellets will probably be enough to make up for the difference in tightness and a #6 traveling at 1300 fps. will be pleanty of energy at normal ranges.
