we usually hunt that area your talking about. up by cook lake. the problem we've had though is that it seems like when were there (late april early may) the birds are still in lower elevation. has anyone else found this? we asked and got permission from a rancher down in lower elevation and had birds all over but couldnt find a thing up higher.

the reason i believe is that they wont move up that high is the food source later in summer and fall they will feed on those acorns that fall they are down low because that is where the ranchers winter thier cattle
and the turks are right there feeding also
how much succes have you had kyle hoyt?

so do you think that they stay low year round? i have never heard/saw a bird on national forest land (higher elevation). 1st year we got 5 birds for 6 guys (one of them was a bearded hen) and then last year we had 4 birds for 5 guys. both years i could have shot several birds. how about you?

Not to hi-jack the thread, but my friend wants to go to WY to hunt. Are there any turkeys in the western part of the state? We were looking at the zones, and they all seem to be on the eastern side. Where would the best place to go to hunt? Perferable in the southern section of the state. We will be hunting after May 1st, if we go. Thanks.
