Default My Wyoming Elk hunt...

Well as many of you know, I was lucky enough to spend 11 days bowhunting Elk in Wyoming. It was an area that I grew up hunting as did my dad. He went up about a week before we got there and scouted out the area for my two buddies and I (unfortunately he didn't draw a tag). He found lots of really nice bulls and a lot of Elk in general. We ended up calling in 16 different bulls and had an incredible time, at least five of the bulls were well into the 300" category. Several of them were within 20 yards but for one reason or another didn't offer a shot. We all killed our elk, so it was a successful trip none-the-less. The 6 point in the video came in about 10 minutes after I shot my spike, which was kind of a bummer but in hinsight, I'm glad I took the 7 yard shot when I did. The hunt was way more exciting than any of us had intended and it was pretty tough to come back. We did quite a bit of fly fishing during the day and hunted in the mornings and evening. The first night, I stalked a big 6 point that would score somewhere around 350 but he was grazing away and I ran out of sage brush to hide behind. Anyway, here are a bunch of the pictures and one of the videos that I took. My dad has most of the pictures so I'll post them when I get them from him. For those that haven't hunted elk, I strongly suggest that you add it to your "Bowhunting to-do-list."

A decent 6 point that came into 42 yards right after I shot my elk

Three okies in Wyoming

Our favorite canyon

Stalking in to set up and call

Trey's cow, he had a monster bull at 15 yards that didn't open up the vitals and decided to fill his tag.

Washing the bloody hands on the 2 mile pack out

A couple of victory beverages

The place we called home for 10 days

One of the blue grouse that became supper

A decent Muley that came within 15 yards

Tony's Cow... he also had an unbelievable bull within 20 yards and couldn't get a shot, I should have pictures of that bull from the previous evening next week.

Sunset with a couple of mulies walking over the ridge

Rainbows, browns, and cutthroats for dinner

My spike... 7 yards

Wow, that sounds like a VERY SUCCESSFUL elk hunt. No monsters but plenty of tasty elk steaks. And they are mighty tasty. Can't wait for the rest of the pics to be posted.

YOU HAD SNOW!!! Man we were in the 90*'s most of the time around here.

Nice mess of fish too. Looks like a fun trip was had by all.

GREAT pics, and thanks for sharing! You're bringing back memories already! And if spikes had been legal in my unit, THAT would have been one of my memories, too!

Man, that looks like an awesome time. I haven't been able to even shoot my bow for 2 weeks since I'm away at college[:@].

What's that white stuff on the ground? It's been 90* here the last couple days, not hunting weather at all...

Elk hunting is on the top of my list after I get out of college before I start the "real" work.
