Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

GobbCaller's second part of his answer is the first and only part of my answer I'm afraid!

I will throw it out as swamp gobblers in the Southeast. They have never not been hunted and the terrain makes it difficult to kill them. Especially, in Alabama where decoys are illegal in those open hardwood swamps.

A turkey is a turkey fellas!Pressured birds no matter what specie our the most difficult to harvest.I hear all the time how Eastern gobblers seem to be the hardest to conquer. What makes em that way is continually being spooked and their own ability to recognize and remember danger in these situations. All gobblers if pressured enough become very wary to this and to classify one specie as the smartest or wariest is not true.We have Rio's out here "that many consider the easiest to harvest "that I garuntee would rival any gobbler when it comes to recognizing danger.

No species get hunted harder than an eatern in the north east. To many hunters and not enough ground to hunt them on!!!! I have a friend that has takin turkeys in California, North Carolina and Virgina. All these birds were either takin off military bases(low hunting pressure) or private property(low hunting pressure). When he goes home to Pa and hunts on public land he never sees a Gobbler. So my theory is public land eastern gobblers are harder to hunt!!!! Oh buy the way i might add that on his california hunt he and his buddy who never been turkey hunting before bagged a double. Go figure

So if you really want to experience a challenging turkey hunting come hunt a Pa,Ny,Md Gobbler on opening day.

Thanks for reassuring my point Mr Longbeard!Pressured birds no matter where your at our tough to hunt and a real challenge.I can also reassure you we do have more than just a couple of turkey hunters here in Calif. And not every turkey here is dumber than yours!!!!

I guess the opinions will vary on this, but what was said about pressure is right. The more there is the harder they are. So it would reason that public land swamp gobblers that get hunted all day, everyday for sixty days would be the toughest. Especially, when the open flat terrain does not allow you to move on them.

Easterns or Floridas. Depends how old the turkeys are of course, but like said before, a turkey is a turkey there are smart ones and dumb ones. Alot depends on hunting pressure, thats the main idea. If a turkey has heard every call there is and been spooked several time, its going to be educated, no matter what the subspecies.
