I recently leased 160 acres in southeastern Michigan primarily for deer, pheasant, and rabbit hunting. Two weeks ago I am sitting in one of my gun blinds wearing lots of hunter orange and glassing the woods edge for deer. I notice some movement low in the grass and behold, turkeys! So, I watch them for a while, 12 in total. They meander out into the open and are following a single bird. After about an hour they are no more than 10 yards from my blind.
I have heard they have excellent eyesight, so I take off all my orange and put on a camo face mask then ease up to look out of the gun port. By now they are right outside my door. For 20 minutes or so they mill around and never notice me. Finally, the lead bird heads into the woods and they are gone.
I sure hope they stay around till spring. Applications for the spring hunt begin Jan. 1. I am definitely a convert now. That really got me fired up.

The previous post is correct....beware, turkey hunting will ruin all your other hunting. Once you start turkeys, you won't want to much of anything else. It consumes you!
