Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default Subspecies Questions.

Are the subspecies of turkey seperated geographically? Is there more than one subspecies in a given area? How can you tell them apart? What subspecies are in northwest North Carolina?

I know this is a lot. Thanks for the info!

There can be more then One Speice in one States , States like Washington has 3 different ones. there are also High breads that are two different species that have mixed. There is a colour diffents between them and also size will change aswell. Western birds have shorter tail feathers then there eastern cousins. I believe NC has Easterns...BT

BT is right on with his reply. Here in Calif. we have two subspecies of birds, the rio grande and the merriems. These two have interbred and their offspring shows traits of both subspecies. This bird is known as the Calif.hybred.

Go to the NWTF website. They used to have pictures and info about each subspecies.
