Owl call before it get's light, then crow call, sometimes it just depends on what the turkey's want to heare, So carry them all,Save the Turkey talk to call him in.
By using Turkey sounds you get the bird used to your calling whitch could make him hang up leave or if he is with hens they could lead him away from the new girl

In the mornings I have had great luck with owl calls. I ave never had a bird respond to crow or hawk. I will always start with those two calls in a run and gun situation, after no response give a call with a mouth call or box and hear the gobble. Still waiting for that crow call to work.

I hunt heavily hunted public land and the traditinal owl, peacock, car horn and door slamming doesen't work to good so i got me a super loud train horn and have it hooked up to twin marine batterys and just drive the logging roads and blow this thing every 100 yards for about 10 miles or so until i hear one and if that dosen't work i like to get my hands on some TNT and blow a few tree tops off. It usaually takes me a case of TNT before i get a responce. But man it's worth it.<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

The best luck I've had is with a loud single reed Mallard hen call 1st thing in the morning. Everybody seems to be trying a owl hooter in the morning, and ther seems to be a million real crows around and the turkeys hear them way to much to shock gobble at them.

woodpecker call works best for me. I use the screamin peacock call by Woodwise. Very loud! Not to many use the woodpecker call around my area. Everybody uses the owl and crow call so I like to use something different.

Without a doubt the best locator call is "The Dead Silence" by MAD calls. They'll gobble every time. Run out and get you one or maybe somebody here has an extra one they will sell you. Good Luck
