Hi all
So, found out I'm going up to see friends in Vermont the last week of May.

We'll be staying in Richmond @ friend's house, they own frontage on the winooski

Another friend is in the country near Montpellier

I don't plan on hunting BUT would love to take my son out just to watch birds.

ANY advice on where this would be advisable would be very welcomed.

The friends in montpellier say they have turkeys in the yard from time to time.

Anyhow, any and all advice welcomed.

I may try to pick up a license but not sure how that goes, and would settle for hanging out in a blind w/ the youngun happily.

Would also be keen on any insight into fishing up that way...have a lot of smallmout experience but none in New England...AND while our buddies up there are outdoorsy, they are not hunt/fish types...more into hike/horse/ski

Would oblige any kindness w/ intel on Turkeys or fishing in Central Florida

More birds in my part of the state (Southern) this year than any in recent memory. Of course there will be around 8,000 less by late May but still plenty to see. All land is open in Vermont unless it is posted. You do not need land owner permission to hunt private if it is not posted. Good luck!

Cool, Thanks! Out of curiosity, is it OK to just call birds (no gun) w/o a hunting license?

I can't see why it would be a problem. You wouldn't be hunting.

While I do not know about Vermont laws.. I know here if there is other hunters nearby and you were calling them you could get into a mess for disrupting the hunt. That law was mainly put in place to prevent the antis from ruining someones hunting. So that would have to be up to the warden service to decide if it would be legal in the end. But as stated that is up here in Maine however..

May be worth getting a license then... Support wildlife commission, be totally legal, and I mo I'd be in my right even if I had no gun... Could have basically forgot it at home.

I appreciate the insight. I ask as Here in FL you cannot call turkeys on huntable land including private during season without a license, technically. You're considered to be participating in an attempt to take game. On land not open to hunting, it's a grey area with respect to harassing wildlife
