Storing Spurs and beard for scoring??
My kid killed a great Osceola with 1.5 inch Spurs on each side, 10.25 inch beard and 20.5 lbs live weight. On May 1st, the bird will be entered in a contest. I don't know the exact process for scoring but it is a function of Spurs and beard length. What is the best way to preserve the legs and beard to keep them as close to the original measurements as possible? I'm guessing, freezer. If so, should I defrost a day or two early or keep frozen up until contest? Thx...

Follow the steps in this link to score your kid's bird. I did have a little chuckle when I read the bird had a LIVE weight of 20.5#. There should be no need to do anything special, as the beard and spurs shouldn't shrink. The one thing you may want to look at right away is to make sure the scale used to weigh the bird meets the contest rules if there are any specifying it has to be on a scale that is marked legal for trade. Is there anything that states that and/or if you had to have it weighed on that type of scale and the weight certified by someone other than yourself? Given the weight and measurements, if you did them correctly, the bird scores 71.5 and that's a really great score!
