Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default rifled barrel for this season, will it work

Greetings,
I will be turkey hunting in Minnesota for the first time this year, but will not be able to purchase a smooth / choked barrel in time for our hunting season. I currently have a 12 gauge Rem 870 express with a slug barrel. Is it realistic to use the rifled barrel for this season? Also, what would be your recommendations for a good turkey load with this barrel?
Thanks in advance

Ken

I can't say I've ever seen that question asked before. Out of curiosity, what choke does the barrel have?

If the barrel is rifled as you say, from what I have read (never tried it myself) but it makes sense, the rifling would spin the shot wad like a slug and as soon as it exited the barrel would throw the pellets in all directions making it useless as a turkey gun.

What this guy said. It would be the opposite of an extra full choke.

Also you may want to check to see if your gun is legal for turkey hunting in your state, or if you can use a 22 mag rifle if you own one.
