I will be turkey hunting in Minnesota for the first time this year, but will not be able to purchase a smooth / choked barrel in time for our hunting season. I currently have a 12 gauge Rem 870 express with a slug barrel. Is it realistic to use the rifled barrel for this season? Also, what would be your recommendations for a good turkey load with this barrel?

If the barrel is rifled as you say, from what I have read (never tried it myself) but it makes sense, the rifling would spin the shot wad like a slug and as soon as it exited the barrel would throw the pellets in all directions making it useless as a turkey gun.
