Default Jakes Still Roosted

This AM is was hunting in Shenandoah Co., VA and heard nothing. At 7:00 I decided to walk and about 200 yds later I flushed a jake and then about 1/2 mile later I flushed another jake. I haven't seen them like tat before, so late and still up. It is only the 1st week.

Yes, but today was a perfect day. In all my years of chasing birds this is the first that I have seen birds stay up that late. I too have seen them stay up later with rain or fog.

I have seen hens on more than one occasion fly down early, then an hour or so later fly up and stay there for an hour or so.

They may have seen something they didn't like also and so stayed up or flew up.
