what is best for you early season or later?

I misunderstood your question... duh.. Anyways the best luck I have had has been during the second week of the season. This year with the way our weather has been I am guessing that the first week is going to be real active..

Hunting public land I have had more success early in the year...before they have had the kitchen sink thrown at them! Private land has had the same results, regardless of whether it was early, or late. Usually later in the year it, for me, has been more about knowing where they plan to go. They won't gobble as much, so knowing their pattern is crucial. If you know it, it can be about as easy as turkey hunting gets...which ain't ever really easy.

In my beard case I have 10 sets of spurs that measure 1 3/8" all but one came the last week of season, 3 in the final minutes of the last day, most of those came from the aid of a younger gobbler which I enticed to venture in by setting up less than halfway between the younger gobbler or even a flock of jakes and the one I knew I wanted, many times the old boys will ignore you until you get the attention of another bird.
