Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default Pa. They' re at it again

Here in Pa.our Game Commission is at it again.A few years ago they passed these laws.In Spring Gobbler season we must wear at least 100sq.inces of fluorescent orange while movin. In the fall we have to wear 250 sq.inches while movin and can only remove it at the setup sight if we place a fluorescent orange band of atleast 100 sq.inches within 15' of the callin site. When this law was first brought up it was met with alot of resistance. The state chapter of the NWTF even offered the state $250,000 to go towards education rather than to have this law passed.Well,It passed anyways. Now the PGC wants to make it mandatory to wear 250 sq in.of fluorescent orange at all times.(least we' ll save money on camo). Here is the kicker,They claim the main reason they want to change the law is because the way the law stands now it is too confusin when we have to have orange on and when we don' t.

Hi jalvja. I have not hunted turkeys before, but I plan to give it a try this fall. I think it' s ridiculous to try to make us wear blaze while calling. Turkeys can see color, right? I think the NWTF was right about hunters needing education rather than blaze. The only hunting accidents we have are made by careless fools and making us wear orange would not prevent that.

Jalvja, I know, isn' t this absolutely rediculous...if anyone cannot understand those little drawings that they should not be in the woods with a gun, period...

The NWTF is once again adamently apposing this new reg as well...on top of that, the orange caps cannot even have a logo on them...yes that is how it reads...it has to be solid orange...no logo' s...not even a orange hat that reads PA Game Comm....when asked about that wording the officials said, oh, we' ll leave that up to the field officers....you know what that means....FINES>>>>

And, Bowhunters are going to be required to wear 25) sq in of orange, head, chest and back combine while overlapped seasons take place.....all because of the damn rifle.....I' d be all for shotgun only for fall birds.....what challenge is it to rifle take a turkey at 200 yards....other than marksmanship, not hunting.

I hate to see those that make decisions based on the experiences of the iggnorant and proceed to tell us its for our own safety!!!Years ago I as well as my children were taught you dont even raise your weapon of choice until your target is clearly identified. Now because of the uneducated we' re all going to look like a neon light!!Sad when we have to pass laws intended to protect us from our own mistakes!!Jimbo, would some kind of portable mobile blind help in hiding some of this color???

I don' t know about a blind Bob,The way the law reads it must be visable a full 360 degrees. As for safety here' s a good example of education vs orange.A few years ago I took a turkey hunters course in order to hunt turkey in Ontario. This is a mandatory course. It was very basic info, but what impressed me was the fact,Ontario has no orange requirment and after having a turkey season for 10 yrs there had only been 1 accident. Here in Pa. there were 28 turkey huntin accidents last year alone.Even with an orange requirment.

Rob, I agree with you 150%!! Ban the use of rifles once and for all!!! The sad part is that a few slob hunters who shoot at anything that moves are to blame in all of this BS!! And the ones shot with rifles don' t get to come back and hunt a another day...there dead!! What a joke!![:@]

There is good news in the works....I spent the day with Ray Smith, owner of River Valley Game Calls and one of our Board of Directors for the PA NWTF.... well the current proposal that we are all against should be dropped. The 250 sq. law is gone and the hat will remain as always and in place of the 250sq will be replaced with a 3" sash worn around the shoulder. That' s good news...I guess.

The way it' s written about a solid...orange hat...will be revised so that logo hats will be acceptable and I assume....orange camo but we' ll see.

That sure sounds like good news Rob,I know when they inroduced the first orange law a few years ago I was one of the biggest pains in the PGC' s butts,(phone calls, letters etc.) I sure hope it changes this time.P.S. Say hi to Ray for me.
