Hello to all
I’m planning to go on a Merriam hunt this spring after graduating college on May 5. I have never been hunting out west so I’m looking for any advice from those that have experience. Does anyone have any suggestions for the best places to do a “do it yourself” hunt for Merriam’s ? I have done some research most of which has focused on the Black Hills but I’m not ruling out other places. Any information would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Good Luck! last year, I sae a TV program that ranked the top 10 states for turkey hunting. SD came in at no. 1. I know a turkey addict who's hunted SD for the past several springs with archery tackle. PM me, and I'll send you his info.

Have hunted public land in the Bonesteele (sp) area 2 times. Good friend put me on the area. Camped out of the back of my truck. Been lucky every time. Have had zero problems finding lots of birds. took a good deal more looking around first time in. Went to same area second time. Filled tags both times. Not a bad cost .... other than fuel traveling from central Alabama. Wish I lived closer !!! Done same on private land in eastern Montana near Wibaux. Excellent population of Merriams.
