Alright! What's going on?
I was driving around up on the pipeline looking for turkeys. I saw a jake with three hens. Now the jake had what looked to be half his tail feathers broken in half. The were dragging on the ground behind him. No doubt it is from being in fights with other toms or other jakes. But, what gives? He was with like I stated three hens. Father up the road maybe around six miles or so a large bearded tom ran across the road. Now this tom was not with a single hen or any other turkey. I couldn't get out and get a shot at the tom as he run into an old cutting that is growing up. This road runs between a powerline and the pipeline so it gives you plenty of view on what is coming up a head for the most part. So tell me why the tom was alone and the beat up jake was with hens? It just puzzles me that is all.

Thanks for the input, where I saw the decent tom I have been seeing him in the same area now at three different occasions. I will be setting up for him most likely on Friday morning if the weather will stop raining..
Any one else have any ideas to this issue of the jake being with the hens and not the tom? I mean the jake looked like he was really beat up with those broken tail feathers. He didn't have any beard so he was not a shooter.. Most likely another big tom is in that area. But why was the Jake with the hens and not a bigger tom?
