Default Wingmaster HD vs Hevi-shot vs Winchester Xtended Range

Bought me a Jellyhead .665 choke tube for my 870.

What do you like better and why:

Remington Wingmaster HD

Winchester Xtended Range

Hevi Shot

i have a rem1187 with a pure gold .670. i have been shooting the nitro blend. before that i shot the rem hevi-shot #5. this year i bought a box of the hevi-shot blend. i can't tell the difference from them and the nitro's. except the price. i like the hevi-shot because they help start the turkey shot revolution. believe the hype in the harder than lead. some cats will tell you they kill them with 2 3/4 low brass #6's. and you can, but why not take the best you can into the field. most people only get to shoot 1 or 2 times in a season so what is really $8 or $10 dollars.........tony

I think since thyre all "heavier than lead" that they will produce pretty similar patterns. I dont like the wingmaster hds, and ive never tried the Xtended Range. Hevi Shot has given me some of the best patterns ive ever seen...

Steve, I shoot the HD's out of my 870 SPS-T and Jellyhead .665. Out of them, the Win. Xtended, and the hevi shot, the HD's pattern the best in my gun. I have always used the old Rem. Hevi shot, but they don't make them anymore. The HD's even patterns better than them. Each setup is different. HD's work better in mine. You may want to give them a try. They work great for me. I use the 3 1/2 6 shot.

I've busted turkeys with WM HD and Hevi-shot. They both worked great. Like someone said...there's only one degree of dead, but many degrees of wounded.

Like an earlier poster wrote...take the best shells in the field you can get. It's the shot that kills the birds, not the camo pattern you're wearing.

Other than that my 870 super mag is not the SPS-T model, this is exactly what I have found with my gun. I have the identical choke you mentioned, Steve, and love the 3.5" #6's out of it. Killed one at 53 steps with that setup last year...stone cold. Normally wouldn't take a shot at that distance, but it was a limb-hanger and he was what we call hung up.

In the vast majority of the shell/choke combos that I have listed Hevi shot has put more pellets in the magic 10" circle.
I have shot some very good patterns with the others, but as a general rule it is easier to get a good pattern with the Hevi shot.
