Black Hills spring turkey, any advice for a Indiana boy greatfully appreciated!
Hi, me and a couple of buddies are wanting to spring turkey hunt the black hills of SD. this spring. I have hunted rio's in the prairies of Nebraska quite a few times, but I have a feeling this will be a whole new game! Can you kill two birds? I was wanting to gun & bow hunt if possible. Just looking for somebody who knows the hills well that might give me some advice on what area to hunt, lodging, best dates, and any helpful tips appreciated! You can email me if you don't want to post any info here, [email protected]
Thanks,
Dan

Don't want to hijack your thread ...but me too!
Hey Dan,
I'm looking for advice on planning a trip as well. I don't want to hijack your thread with additional questions. Perhaps if you get some responses we can share? I've posted at some other sites as well.

I have hunted the Black Hills several times. I shot a bird behind Mt. Rushmore. It is nothing but chaos, but I heard to take a boat down and you will get all the birds you want. You can go to www.sdgfp.info or call (605) 773-3393. This will give you all the hunting information.

I noted your references to the Brown Cemetary in Chesterfield County, Virginia. I can provide a bit more information about one of those buried there..., or two if you include the infant buried with her: Sally Nelson Corling. Her husband was Charles Corling, 1805-1877, who is buried in Blandford Cemetery in Petersburg. Her daughter, Mary (Molly) Corling, is also buried in the same plot as Charles Corling, as is a grandson, Charles Author Johnson. Sally Nelson Corling's great granddaughter was Mary Corling Johnson, who married first David Dunlop II of Petersburg and then Archibald McCrae. As the well known Mollie McCrae, she and her husband restored Carter's Grove near Williamsburg, Virginia. Colonial Williamsburg later owned Carter's Grove, but it has now been sold to a private owner. You can read about Molly McCrae in the Spring 1994 issue of Colonial Williamsburg, the Journal of the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.
