Best pattern I got was with the Nitros but you'll hear boatloads of people tell you to use hevishot... Winchester Supreme are pretty sweet too.

Never tried Nitros but I do pretty good with 3.5" 2.25 oz #6 Hevi-13s.

I'm assuming you're referring to Remington Nitro's, not Nitro cartridge co.. I shoot Hevi - 13's 3.5x2.25x6's and like them a lot. I will be handloading some pretty cool stuff shortly though and will hold off talking anymore until I pattern it!

i used to use a duplex load by nitro (the cartridge co)..4's and 6's , very expensive but o soooo effective out to 50 yards or so.. i settled in with a number 5 shot 3 1/2 in mag load by either federal or winchester supreme (they both shot the same out of my pure gold 640 choke)...bust up some birds out to 50 yards no problems

Yeah the original poster must be talking about Remington Nitro which are definately not to be confused with Nitro company shells. The Nitro Co. duplex loads are the best I have ever shot. Expensive, but absolutely, no doubt, lethal to 50 yards with the right choke.

Winchester Supremes are good shells too.

I've gotta get some NAC (Nitro Ammo Co.) shot --- Now I'm excited to try shooting it!

It all depends on your setup. Some loads will shoot great out of one gun, but not so good out of another. I'm sure Hevi 13's shoot great in some setups, but not mine. My 870 SPS-T with a Jellyhead choke really likes the Rem. Wingmaster HD's 3 1/2" in 6 shot. This is the best load I have found for my setup, and I can actually buy them for under $40 with tax included for 10 shells. BTW, they can reach out to 50 yards and beyond and knock them down, but I prefer not to shoot beyond 50 yards.

For the first couple of years I used #4 remington hevishot loads in a 870 with a rem hevishot choke, worked great. now that hevi-shot is their own company, and way expensive I switched to win supreme #5's using a hastings .660 extended choke, at 30 yds 210 0ut of 297 pellets in a 10'' circle at 30 yds. Think i'll stick with the winchester.
