In Ohio the timber rattlers are protected and you are not supposed to kill one. A few years ago a guy killed one and bragged to everyone at work and the ODNR came down on him big time. That was his falt for telling everyone. I don' t like snakes either and if I meet with one in the woods he very well may have an accident but no one will ever know.
