Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

I'm a little leary of any "optical" device costing less than $50.00 on a gun that can shoot up to 3 1/2" shells. The recoil alone, can wreck that site in short order. A friend of mine bought a BSA Red Dot site for his Remington 11-87, which is a "lighter" kicking gun than your 835, and it destroyed that site after only 9 shots!!! I'd suggest taking the plunge and buy a good quality scope instead.

I see no reason to put a scope on a turkey gun, but that's just me.

Well, sometimes a gun doesn't shoot to the point of aim right from the factory. By putting some type of Optical device on it, it enables you to dial the reticle or dot, right to the very center of the pattern for a much more effective killing pattern.

I had a Simmons Pro Diamond Reticle on my 835 when I still had it and it worked flawlessly. It was designed for turkey hunting.

im a fan of opensights because:
1-they cant be bumped and offsight
2-what if a tom is rlly close and you cant get him in the sights
3-what if the light is not good
4-im used to shooting ducks and geese open sight

thats just me.maytom made a good point tho.

If it were me I would go with a little bit "better" scope. I have purchased several lesser expensive models for shotguns and they all have gone bad within a year or two.
For me a scope or red dot is the way to go for turkey hunting.

My friends and I have had good luck with the Bushnell Trophy 1.75x4. They can handle the recoil of the 12 ga 3.5's with no problem. they have a circle-x reticle.

I've killed birds that someone with open bead/sights could not.

Scopes are for some and not for others but there is no reason not to scope a turkey gun...

I have a pine ridge scope from cabelas on my black powder gun. It seems to be holding up fine, but then again, its not a 3.5" 12 gauge either.
