..Just wondering, how far did you call your bird in this year and in the years past?
this year i drew a hot gobbler from one ridge to the other including down hill
and across a creek to my set up,at least 500 yards,so i thought it would be
interesting to ask,i will say this it was not soft calling that drew this bird
thus far,and yes he bit the dust...so the best you can remember how far
have you called one in....what distance????????

The first bird this spring did' nt have to come very far, I got right in on him kind of accidently matter of fact I saw him when he pitched down, The 2nd bird had to come about a 150 yards. I have called them from about 300 yards but most of the times I' m set-up closer than that.

this years bird, the one i didnt shoot was about 60 yards..then the one i did shoot, i think i just got lucky, all i did was softly cluck and purr, an occassional yelp about every 45 min.....kinda just letting them know i was there.....worked though...took him about 18 -20 yards....[:-]
last years birds..well fl huntress called him in from about 40 yards, he got right next to me, gobbled, spit and drummed, he was like 3-4 feet away from me, i could of died when he gobbled, but i kept calm but he was too close to shoot, so he took off, didnt get a shot
he walked about 60 yards away and she called him back to me
.....classic hunt.....my first bird.....taken with in 20 yards[:-]
the next day i called fl. in a jake , didnt even know i called him in though...i was just soft callin' again.......she took him at about 20 yards
then the followin' weekend , i went to huntnma' s hollar[:-] and took another one by myself......now i know i called him in
....it was so sweet, he must of been 300 yards away, i could barely here him gobble, so i yelped , real loud, it gobbled back, i kept doing it, a lil' quieter each time.....he really liked the clucks, there he was circlin' from behind me.....as soon as i got the shot, i took it.....got him 13 yards away.....
wish i had more to tell , but i dont

Year before last about 500 yards from across a big canyon he flew part of the canyon crossed a barb wire fence and a creek then came up on the ridge I was on gobbling all the way, surprised me how little time it took him, got him at about 30 yards. Last year due to the weather I just ambushed one when he came to water got him at about 40 yards. This year I have no idea, he came in quite and I didn' t know he was there until I heard spitting and drumming, got him at about 12 yards.

from me to him was about 300 in a straight line but hed have to climb a hill that was vertical and cross a creek with a 15ft cliff above it....he went around the hill...200yds from his roost..then about 300 to me up the hill....only took him an hour...i heard them off the roost and knew they were way off..i could barely make out a gobble..so i walked around the hill top i was on trying to locate one..nothing..went back and set up because i know they use the trail i was on to fee...called with my box and glass a few series of each every 20 minutes or so...about an hour later i heard a gobble..then another....he was looking for me becuase he came from a good ways away and couldnt pinpoint me..then i hit my call excitedly he gobbled and the rest is history pictures and memories...this was all through the woods too...some of it fairly thick....im surprised..but i guess when your looking for a date youll do anything......

Tot,over the years I' d have to say most of em come inside a 100 yards!Sure I' ve had those love crazed lonely gobblers come on occasion from a considerable distance and also have had birds come a long ways while working another one but for the most part as with Strut here I set-up usually inside a 100 yards!I always figure it this way,the less amount of distance he has to travel to me the less things there are,(hens, hunters, obstacles),to screw things up!!!
