Rifle vs. Shotgun...

I agree with most of you, would not be much fun shooting one at that distance. Half the excitement is getting that bird in close and watching him the whole time. Just doesn' t seem that sporting and the turkey population would be drastically affected.

Here in Texas I know several people who use rifles to hunt turkeys. Most of these guys are not really in to turkey hunting, they are in it for the meat. I certainly don' t fault them or think they are doing anything unethical for exercising their legal right to take a turkey with a rifle, but I don' t do it. I enjoy the hunting aspect of taking a turkey as much or more than the actual act of taking a turkey.

i wont do it, can' t make me
....dont need meat that bad, if i did , i' d go fishing
.....all of my harvests have been within 20 yards, to see them look right at you and not see you is the best thing ever....especially if you get a shot
after that man was killed turkey huntin' in virginia by a rifle shot...just scares the hell out of me.....all these freaks shootin' into the brush , trying to nail that sound, not identifying it first, nope , i wouldnt do it or advocate it either......

I feel the same way as most here.....If I can' t call the turkey in to within 40 yards, then he wins.......that' s the sport for me.....is getting them to do something against his nature........I could probably kill a turkey more often if I could get someone with a locater to call to make the turkey gobble, then sneak up to within 100 yards and shoot him out of the limb....which some people do.......but that' s not the way I do it.......I could have done it.....I thought about doing it this year.....I hunted a Gobbler that would gobble, then fly into a field and strut all day.......I could have shot him with a rifle and would probably opened up some of the two year olds......but I didn' t and I didn' t get him.....but the cool thing about that, is that he' ll be there next year........Rifles for me, have no place in the Spring Gobbler woods.
