Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default Another Question for PA Hunters?

Do you feel that the Season starts too late? I have been talking to many people and they all seen to think that hunters in PA seem to miss out on some of the best Gobbler activity. I have also noticed myself that a few weeks ago the gobblers were going nuts but now they seem to have shut up and wich in most cases leads me to believe that they are henned up, I have seen that this is the case also. Tell me what you think, do you think the season starts too late of too early, and what about next year when It is not to start until May (Don' t get me wrong I think the Youth day on April 24th next year will be great for the Kids). Everybody put your 2cents and let me know what you think.

that makes sense but I just don' t see the purpose of starting in May next year, that seems kind of late to me. I completely agree with keeping the repopulation rates up. But if we have to wait why could we not have the opportunity to get 2 birds in the season. PA has one of the highest turkey populations in the country, and other states that have similar sized poplulations have the opportunity to shoot 2 birds, Now I don' t know if they have a fall season like us but maybe the game commission could let us shoot 2 birds in the spring if we don' t get a bird in the fall. I am just curious what everyone thinks about this. Let me know good or bad, not looking to start a war, just want to hear some ideas on how to improve PA' s season

It won' t be the first time the season has started in May. I don' t really believe we miss out on much. I always experience good hunting up until the last week of the season, and the bird sure haven' t slowed down here! They' re still going strong.

Not sure if I like the youth hunt idea or not. I don' t think it will draw any more new hunters than regular seasons.

Hello all, first time on the message board.

I' m in PA and itching to get the season started. I would agree that the season does seem a little late, but fortunately I' ve heard toms gobblin' in the mid-morning and late evening for the past 10 days. What I' d really like to see is a second tag for later in the season. Maybe something like, one bird may be taken during the first 2 weeks of the season, with a second bird available starting the third saturday. I think New York does something like that. Who knows they may do something like that and at the same time introduce a " turkey stamp" to get a few extra bucks out of us.

PS I know I' m writing at a time when I should be in the woods, but I' m stuck on public land this year so I' m sitting out the opener and hoping things calm down for Monday.

I think it would be nice if it started a week or two earlier. I also think we should be able to hunt on Sundays!!

Why I moved south.LOL

March down here.

PA' s fall season is a possible reason.
I' ve taken birds early and the last week in PA.
Biologists would know alot more than I.

The season to me starts a little early. For the past 2 years I think it has started in April and before that was always the first weekend in May. The birds birds I saw this morning were with hens right off the roost and they have been that way for the past 2 weeks, but it is getting less and less hens all the time. It should be getting better in the next week or so I figure at lease in my area I hunt.

Hey, I feel your pain, PA hunters! It' s hard for me to believe, considering how many turkeys PA has, that you can only take 1 bird per spring season and on top of that, no hunting on Sunday. I thought we had it bad in MO, but our season looks good compared to PA' s. We can take 2 gobblers and have 3 weeks to do it in, including Sunday' s......not too bad condsidering some state' s laws. We also have a fall season in October that lasts 2 weeks in which you can take 2 birds of either sex. Not quite as good as maybe some of the southern states but overall I don' t think we MO hunters can complain. Good luck to all the PA hunters!!
