RE: Roosting Trees
In my areas just about any species of tree, the key is the tree's location, and the branch configuration. Find a big ol' oak at the head of a hollow with some horiziontal limbs about yourleg to waist in diameter and you probably have a likely roost tree. Big pines and hemlocks as well as oaks seem to be favorites, of course whereI hunt there are a ton of both, and they can change on a daily basis, but ther is a window when the hens are still being bred, but have made their nest and are returning to it each day to lay prior to incubation. At this time the gobbler and his hens seem to roost close together and because tyhe hens are not moving much, they might roost the same place each night. Finding that roost and getting close is a good way to get a henned up bird at that time. When the hens start to sit the nest there is a good chance the gobbler will move in search of more hens. Then you have to find him all over again.
