WNY...Lots of birds around here , although since the ice cover melted in the woods, many birds have been back in the woods taking advantage of the acorns that they couldn't access all winter...They haven't been out in the fields as much as they were much of the winter..
I don't think the winter had much of a negative effect on the birds..Even though much of the mast was locked up under ice and snow for most of the winter, there was nothing to limit the MOBILITY of the turkeys..As long as they can stay mobile, they'll find enough forage above ground to keep them going.. Multiflora rose is a good example..Nasty darn stuff to walk through, but the berries remain above the snow and the birds ( and deer) love 'em... Still lots of corn left , too....
