Whippoorwills singin' in your neck of the woods??
I don' t know much about the range of the whippoorwill, but we have them around here in MO. I always look forward to hearing their serenade while I' m walking into my hunting spot in the dark early in the mornings. Heard a couple of them singin' to me this morning on an outing to scout. When you hear a whippoorwill sing, then followed up by a gobble or two while you' re walking in or sitting there in the dark..... man there ain' t nothin' that' ll put a bigger grin on your face!

Here in South Arkansas also. I think their drumming or courtship thing is more impressing than their call. Can' t describe the sound, but close to someone twanging the lower string on a guitar.

Yeah they are getting after it here in the Ozarks, just about the time they shut-up is when I usually hear the first gobble of the morning, If I pull into a hunting spot and the whippoorwills are still going I know I' m not to late. They sound great and I love to hear them.

I haven' t heard a whippoorwill here in NY in ages. I recall hearing them almost every spring morning when I was still a kid at home. I always enjoyed hearing them. Wish we still had them around, not sure why we don' t.
