One more for tonite then Im done. Here in Washington we seem to have hit, phaseII of the season on our first week. Not much in the way of turkey talk going on out there.What do you guys do to counter the mute toms? Hard to find them when they ain' t yackin

Preseason Scouting comes into play at this point. Earlyer on in the season you were studying the birds in your scouting times. This will give you a better idea as to where there are going,when and why. When working closed mouth Gobblers , you need to work these kinds on the same level. Quiet your calls, keep suddle. Setting up on travel routes/Strut areas are a good idea at these times...BT

It is easier to sit and wait for a silent bird if you know he is there and likes the area you are in.

I had to deal with silent toms last spring. Was finally able to get a nice pair of birds but only after 8 days of hunting. I got the 1st by runnin' and gunnin' , just walking and calling on an aluminum call looking for a response. The 2nd came by wearing out a lot of shoe leather and glassing w/ the binocs, the spot and stalk method. A guy has to be versatile sometimes to fill your tags under those conditions.

Well all I figured it out thanks to your help. At least this trip. Went back to the same spot this morning and decided that I' d try an agressive approach.Figured what the hey. So after a few tree yelps did nothing, I started wearing a hole in my power crystal almost non stop. Caused 10 toms to fire up,that and the help of a Raven pestering 2 of the Toms. One fired up on the ridge across, but was gobblin going away.So from what you all have told me I figured he was henned up so I left the area til about 10am. Wnet to were I last heard him and before I made a noise or sat down he started up again. So I called a little to get a response Well I had him in hand by 10:30. Awesome hunt, couldn' t ask for better. With the silent period I figured that the hens he had probably were' nt many so thought he might get lonely quick. My first turkey last year(jake) was a run/gun type. But this is my first" Make a plan, sit down, the kind you watch on TV" type. Boy getting a turkey is one thing, but when you get one like this,tell you what there are NO doubts I' m hooked.Thanks to all again
