RE: camo skin on a gun?
You can as it is personal preference.
But I no longer try to hide my gun - It is a matte finish but think about it? Just what will that Tom see as you point the gun at him? Your arm is in Camo - your hands are Camo - hunkered with your cheek down on the stock - What exactly will that Tom see? Probably just this --> O - the end your muzzle.
I have a Black Powder side by side that is all shiny and glossed. I don't bother to Camo that either and it has not caused me any trouble.
And if you hunt out of a blind doesn't matter at all then.
I strongly recommend you do not tape that old gun. Is a real mess remvoingthe tapeafter season no matter what pre-treatment you use. Been there will never do that again! Ole Besty derserves it!
Movement is the key.

Never had an issue with not camoing the gun.
Actually I dislike camo guns, and stainless, and all synthetic stocksfor that matter. A gun should be blue steel and walnut, but of course that's just my opinion.
