As far as I know yes there is very good population of wild turkeys and I do think they have a 3 bird limit is some areas. While I have not conact with any California hunters my suggestion would be to contact the fish and game department.
They should be able to help you!

im a California contact!
we have a over-population of turkey in most areas, and the 3-bird limit is for the whole state, if you have any specific questions id love to answer them for you. what part of CA are you looking at moveing to?

well san diego is far from me...i would go to www.dfg.ca.gov and check out the F&G lands down that area. i don't think there are too many turks down that way..you can also look at National forest lands down that area. sorry i don't have any more advice.

your quite some distance from me, im north of San Fran, but in San Diego there is turkeys, they are just more scattered and harder to hunt, we have Rio's and in some places Merriams around here
