I have been useing one for about 30 years.I tried all the others, slate, glass, box calls, diaphrams.
I always come back to my little scratch box.I do keep a diaphram with me for close calling.
I also make a few scratch box calls that I give to young hunters when they get there first bird.
they work good for me.I busted my box one time.that is when I started making them.I worked on the old box and fixed it and am still useing it.
get one and learn how to use it and have fun.[&:]

I started using one last year. I really like this small lightweight call. And I mean lightweight!!!! Only a couple ounces and boy can it sing. I bought a Richard Shively Super Yelper. Great call!

I was just wondering. How difficult scratch boxes are to make? Tree climber, do you have any info on how to learn to make one? Sounds like a fun project...(better than most of the ones my wife wants me to do)

Hey treeclimbe,r I would not mind knowing how to make a scrtch call either. No one I know uses one up here in Maine. I have a few box calls to make, once my shop warms up to the double digit range. Wouldn' t mind trying my hand at a scratch call.
