What size of shot do you use?

I like using #6's, more pellets that way.

My particular gun patterns my own handloads using #4 shot the best, plus I like punching power of 4's at optimum downrange yardages...

I like #4's. Bigger is better IMO. I've killed gobblers with #6's but when cleaning the bird, I'vealways found pellets wadded up in the feathers right next to the skin----no penetration. Those pellets didn't help in the killing of the bird. What good are extra pellets if they don't penetrate. I've never found a #4 like that. My 870 will put 11-13 #6pellets in the kill zone @40 yards----with #4's I get 7-9 hits. #4's are what I have used for the past 15 years-----never lost a bird. 40 yards is my maximum range. CB

I've always used 6 because i was taught by my father that more hits are better, althought the 4's might pack a little more punch downrange i like have more chances to hit that head and neck. Turkey don't seem particularly tough if you hit them in the right spot so i would rather have more chances to hit that spot then more punch when it got there. I've killed a bird at 51 yards before with 6s (due to some poor range estimation in some open woods on my part, not a shot i would recommend) so i think their power is adequate at range. Really kind of a personal preference i suppose, also depends on what the gun likes.

In the Rem. hevi shot mags I use 5 shot. They don't make 5 shot in the Rem. HD's, so I bought some 6 shot, but overall I prefer 5 shot.
