If you were to pattern your gun using a turkey target, how many bb's would you want at a minimumin the head/neck areato kill the turkey? I've heard someone say 9 before, but wondering what you guys think?

It only takes one in the head/neck area to kill a turkey, as buckmaster and txjourneyman said, at least with #4 shot. When I shot my first turkey, I honestly could notfind any BB holes or blood on the head, so I know for a fact that VERY few BBs hit the bird, but still brought him down.

Yep only takes one golden bb but really more the better. When I use to hunt with the shotgun I'de always be ready to run after that first shot if it was a long one so if that bird did regain his composure and get up from floppingI could get close enough to hammer him a good one if he tried to fly or run.

When I was younger I had a 3in 20 ga for turkeys and only a modified choke. Well I had abig tomlocked up at 40+ yards andhe started to leave so I figure what the heck I'll try it and gave him one. He went down and I ran and got to about 10 yards from him nad he realized he was ok and tried to take off and fly so I pulled up andfinished him at 15 yrads. Shot ended up bein 44 yards after I ranged it. WCL

When you think it only takes one is what causes one to take long shots and potential wound a nice bird.....though you are all right.

The rule I use to develop my lethal range is 8 to 12 pellet holes in the neck bone or skull only. I do not counta any pellet holes other than that.

Once I have that number duplicated a few times on targets - then I know my lethal range.

Turkey hunting at its finest is to call the bird up close and personal - that is what I do and some times the turkey does win!

If you can consistently put half a dozen pellets in the kill zone, you'll get your bird...

If youwantmore, all the better...Never hurts to have a margin of error....

8 to 12 when patterning, but it only takes one BB in the head / neck to make a clean kill.
