Default Which 20 ga. 3" shell?

My buddy just purchased an 870 Express Youth Model. I plan on hooking him up with a Primos Jellyhead Choke too. I was wondering if anyone could suggest a good load in 3" that they usein the same or similar set up.

I was looking at the Hevi-Shot Hevi 13 in 6 shot. Any suggestions?? Thanks...

I highly recommend the Hevishot. I love it. I would try the 5's first if it was me and see what kind of pattern I get with them. Either way, I dont think you can go wrong with hevishot. Good luck!

My girlfriend's 20 ga did best with a Briely extended Improved Modified choke and Hevi 13 #6. She has a Beretta 390 20ga. It was very VERY picky and a lot of the patterns (and we tried about 7 differnt loads through 3 different chokes), were just flat out awful. She is good out to about 35 steps.

I would definetly go with some type of heavier than lead shot... Remington makes there new HD turkey load in 20 ga... I would prob give them a try...

It's all what his budget & time will allow. You can have two identical guns with the same chokes & identical ammo & they will pattern differently. Hevi•Shot® is great stuff, greater energy with smaller shot. For me, (YMMV) the Hevi 13 doesn't pattern anywhere near as good as the older (now discontinued) Remington® Hevi•Shot® of a few years ago. The absolute, best patterning load (in my 20ga) is Federal® Mag Shok 3" Mag of 1 5/16oz of copper plated #6 shot. (It patterns better than Hevi•Shot®!)I don't know why it just does. Try it all; lead included.
