Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default Took a whooping today!

Today is the second day of Georgias' turkey season and I got whooped bad.

I went in before daylight this morning and got set up. At the break of day two birds started gobbling in the distance and another on a hill north of me. I felt the bird on the hill could hear me so I did some soft calling. Then from no more than 40 yds. behind me, in a tree on the logging road I walked in on, which I walked directly under to get set up, a bird gobbles one time and flys down away from me. I'm pretty sure he could see me from where he was roosting. Anyway, away he went and I couldn't turn him. Within 30 minutes it was quiet, at 9 a.m. I gave up and walked back to my truck, got my chair out of the truck and my thermos and just sat and listened. Around 10 a.m. a bird gobbled directly in front of me about a quarter mile at the most. I took off towards him and stoped at the edge of the swamp to listen for him, then another gobbles to my right, maybe 300 yds. I could tell the first one was going away from me, so I moved closer to the one on my right and set up a little past him.

I thought I had him, he went quiet and I could see a head coming over a small rise. Wouldn't you know it, a jake! Now I'm talking to myself, no way this was the bird doing the gobbling. Well I wouldn't call, and that jake walked to within 30 feet of me and stood there for what seemed an eternity. One thing for sure, my new camoflage worked to perfection. He started putting, and looking for a hen and then finally walked a way from me, I watched him till he was about 50 yds away. Then the other bird gobbled where he came from. I called, he gobbled, and gobbled, and gobbled. I saw the jake coming back and I went quiet again, he went towards the big bird. Well that old gobblered played with me until 1:00 p.m. and was going away all the time. By this time I was cooking in the Ga. sun and gave up. When I walked back to my truck he was still gobbling. I probably should have stayed but I was give out.

My final thought as I stood at my truck drinking coffee, JW!, this one is yours. If y'all have read some of the other post, JW! is coming down from WI. to hunt with me this week.

Sorry Team 9, I got whooped.

If they are doing a lot of gobbling in that area...it seems like they like that spot...I would frequent that area every time I went out.
