I took my nephew on the youth hunt yesterday morning. It was his first time to go turkey hunting and he was able to shoot a 13# jake. He was very excited over that but what got me excited was that when we stepped out of the truck about 30 min before legal shooting light(not far to walk) we heard gobblin. I don't know about everyone else but I have never heard them gobble that early. And it wasn't just one or two gobbles these birds were hammerin. We couldn't do anything with these birds as they had plenty women but we were able to call in the jake later in the morning. I guess it will go down as one of my all time favorite hunts and I didn't even have a gun.

Congrats on the kill! Gobblers have been heard to gobble in the middle of the night on a full moon! I stepped out of the truck years bac at a local WMA & heard a gobbler hammerin at 4:55am, 45 minutes ahead of even the first glow of steeley white on the horizon.

Congrats to you and your nephew on the Harvest.
Nothing beat's watching the young ones harvesting from the wild.
WTG on getting another young hunter on his way to a good life time of enjoying the outdoors.

Congrats to you and your nephew.. To try to lure the big toms in, you could've tried to used a full strut gobbler decoy with a few hen decoys. That may have challenged one of the those gobblers that had hens over to your set up... On Primos' TRUTH 17, they hear turkeys gobbling at 4:## something in the morning. I think it was at least 2 hours before daylight. They made it sound like they had been gobbling nearly all night...A half hour before legal light is not uncommon. Good luck on y'alls next hunt.
