Now we're goin!!!! Good job!!! Nice bird, too.
I was close this morning.....close. I set my blind last evening on a ridge they like to roost on. So I get in REAL early this morning, the hope being not to spook them off the roost. So, I get settled in, and to be honest, I curled up on the ground in the blind and went back to sleep. I was awoken by a thunderous gobble right outside the blind!! Yeah, it was still dark, and he was in the tree. Like....30 yards away in the tree. He gobbled literally a hundred times, about every 15- 20 seconds.
There have been a couple guys hunting the bordering property, and they have the birds pretty educated....So, I figure I'll be pretty quiet and clucked a few times, softly, just every once in a while.....Every time I did, he shut up for a couple minutes, so I know he knows I'm there. I set the call down and waited. He was all by his lonesome, so I figure I'm in there. He literally hops out of the tree into the field behind me, I'm only about 10 yards in the woods, then he gobbles, and I don't know why, but he ran as fast as his feet would take him across the field into the woods....Hell if I know....
I moved the blind to the middle of the field for tomorrow, if he does it again, he's in big time trouble.

Keep after him mobowhuntr, you'll figure him out, that's why we do this. Dr. Andy I was in zone 21 near Wis. Rapids. I'll be in zone 22 the 6th week near Mosinee with some friends from out of state. I've got a tag also but at least one other hunter will go first before I try to fill my tag. I'll be in Rapids again this coming week with my brother, but he really doesn't need my help, I just can't resist the chance to chase these things!

It doesn't matter because Pat told the captains that the birds didnt need to be entered til the end of the contest. That is why we setup the spread sheet. However, I noticed that everyone else had them on theirs, so i emailed all the scores to him but he has not responded. Prolly out hunting.
Here is how we are doing so far.

Looks like we are doing pretty good guys. My season has not been a very productive one, but at least I was able to connect on one bird. Our season ends this weekend here in KY. I will be out both days trying to fill that second tag. Hopefully it will eclipse the first one.

Good luck! I will be doing the same, but trying to get my first bird of the season. This year has been the worst year i have hunted turkey. They dont gobble when they hit the ground too much and every bird that i have got to gobble after the hit the ground has been henned up. I think i was jinxed by filling both tags last season. I'm still going tho. I have been out 8 times with numerous close calls. Hopefully Thursday when i go out there is at least one lone gobbler.

Mightymouse....er, I mean, MightyMite.....You ain't jinxed buddy.....EVERYBODY I talk to says the same thing this year. The birds are just acting strange. I talked to a fella this morning says he has 3 gobblers strutting in the same field every morning, and they pretty much stand perfectly still, all fanned out. He said in 2 hours they moved about 20 feet. They don't gobble, they don't move, they just stand there. Every morning. Decoys be damned......Figure that one out....
I'm tellin ya, that cold snap really messed them birds up this year. I haven't even seen NEARLY as many in fields as I normally do. I tend to think it's partially because normally this time of year, the woods are all greened up, and thick. Since that cold snap put the ix-nay to the leaves, the woods are more open than they normally are......Hence, they are in the woods more.....That's the theory anyways....[8D]
